Phonics and Phonemic Awareness

Our English Phonics program begins with phonemic awareness and letter-sound knowledge with a concentration on short vowels. Students will blend and segment phonemes to build their foundation in reading and writing. Long vowels are introduced along with the variety of ways that long vowels are represented, including magic e, vowel teams, and open syllables. Students will also be adding consonant blends, digraphs, and inflectional endings to their reading and writing. Multisyllable words with short and long vowels are practiced, along with words including prefixes and suffixes.
